(BALTIMORE, MD)
Jaime Zollars is inspired by Fairy
Tales and Flemish painters. Her paintings are mostly narrative
scenes depicting fictional people and places far away. Though the
scenes are fantastic and imagined, the images often parallel
experiences and ideas from real contemporary societies.
Jaime’s paintings are a combination of acrylic paint and collage.
The collage pieces are sometimes cut out by hand or are scanned
and digitally sliced, and then paint is applied on top of the
collage, allowing some of the patterns and textures to show
through in the final works.
Jaime Zollars has painted images for children’s books, magazines,
and newspapers. She also has painted for galleries, including
Copro Nason Gallery, Gallery Nucleus, Lunar Boy Gallery, and Black
Maria. Jaime has a B.A. in Photography from the University of
Maryland, and received a B.F.A in Illustration with distinction
from The Art Center College of Design in 2003.
