I claim my inspiration from pure
emotions; powerful and oftentimes personal, ranging from love,
anger, betrayal and the scores in-between. I feel honoring the
human soul, spirit and determination wholeheartedly breathes life
into my creations and my hope is that the images and expressions
fuel the desire for life and walk a path of their own through each
of my viewer's interpretations.
I feel that as I continue to evolve
and explore the human spirit with flights and pursuits I gain new
ground in my motivation to create my own world. I spend a majority
of my time continuing my mostly self-taught artistic endeavors and
maintaining and growing in skills, not only with my artist brush,
but through my need to express my life and feelings though music,
performance, design and writing.
Kahn’s mixed media works make use of
her own likeness in movie-like stills of elegant decadence, varied
taboo and often controversial subject matter to challenge the
viewer, their understanding and preconceived notions; yet she
connects through honest feeling and emotions present in today’s
society. She designs, builds, and executes characters,
non-existent places, dreams, illusions, fears and fables that
become so real they breathe their own life into our visual world.
Aunia Kahn was born and raised in
Detroit, MI. A natural creator as a child, she nurtured and held
onto her gift into adulthood to become an accomplished 21st
Century artist. In 2005 she officially launched her career with
her first exhibition, and immediately gained interest in gallery
showings across the United States. Her works have been seen in NY,
MO, MD, MN, IL, TX, CA, VA, FL, DC, MA, MI, CO, OK, GA, TN, AZ,
PA, and OR, as well as internationally in France, Italy and
Canada. Kahn’s exhibition list has grown to nearly 150 shows,
which include renowned locals such as The San Diego Art Institute,
Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, The Mitchell Museum, The St.
Louis Artists’ Guild, and ©POP Gallery amongst others.
Aunia’s images, likeness and presence
have been featured, interviewed and seen on FOX News LA, REFUSED
Magazine, Celebrity Artist Michael Bell Radio Show, Juxtapoz
On-line, Crawling Tunes Magazine (Germany), SNAP Magazine (UK),
and Forbidden Whispers Magazine (UK) which are but a small
sampling of her exposure. In 2007 Le Bourgeois Vineyards featured
Aunia’s “Rousing the Whirlwind” in their limited edition
collectors series of bottled wines.
Aunia currently resides in Illinois
where she spends her free time with 4 German Shepherds and 2 black
cats in her secret closet.
